My Leggings Pet Peeve....

Leggings Are Not Pants: A Public Service Announcement

Alright, ladies, it’s time for a little tough love. We need to talk about leggings. Specifically, the phenomenon of wearing leggings everywhere—as if they’re some kind of all-purpose, one-stop wardrobe solution. They’re not. They are workout wear, plain and simple. Leggings were designed to stretch with you as you lunge, squat, and downward-dog your way to greatness. They were not, however, meant to replace actual clothing. And yet, here we are, living in a world where leggings have somehow become a substitute for putting together a real outfit.

I get it. Leggings are comfortable. They require zero effort. They make you feel like you’re still wrapped in the cozy embrace of your bed while you’re out in public. But guess what? So does a bathrobe, and you don’t see people parading around Whole Foods in terry cloth (at least, I hope not). The point is, we live in a world with an abundance of beautiful, stylish, and dare I say, just as comfortable fashion choices. And yet, we’ve collectively decided that skintight synthetic fabric stretched across our lower halves is the pinnacle of modern dressing? It’s an epidemic.

To be clear, I’m not saying leggings don’t have a place in life. They absolutely do! Here are the only acceptable occasions for wearing leggings:

  1. On your way to and from a workout. Because changing in gym bathrooms is the worst, and I’m not a monster.

  2. During your workout. Because obviously, you need the stretch factor while you’re bending, running, or lifting.

  3. Lounging at home. Fine, I’ll allow it. But the second you step outside, let’s elevate the look.

That’s it. That’s the list.

Now, I can already hear the rebuttals: But they’re so easy! But I style them with a cute blazer! But I saw Gigi Hadid wear them with heels once! Look, fashion is about making an effort. And let’s be real: throwing on leggings every day is the opposite of effort. It’s the fashion equivalent of autopilot. Meanwhile, there are gorgeous wide-leg trousers, chic midi skirts, tailored denim, and elegant jumpsuits just begging to be worn. And guess what? These options make you look polished, intentional, and like you actually took five minutes to get dressed.

At the end of the day, dressing well isn’t about wearing something complicated—it’s about showing up for yourself. And trust me, nothing says “I have my life together” quite like a beautifully put-together outfit. So let’s leave the leggings for the treadmill, shall we?

You deserve better. We all do.
